In an ever-growing technology arena, wireless networking technologies are becoming a crucial component of a campus network. Improvements in the bandwidth and security of Wi-Fi technology make it possible for students and guests to access the Internet using their personal laptops without finding a place to physically connect to the campus network, without the threat of an unauthorized user accessing confidential data and information systems, and without the risk on a virus-infected computer infiltrating the campus network. York Technical College provides a wireless networking infrastructure for faculty, students, and guests. Access points are strategically placed throughout the campus. Several configuration steps are necessary to connect to the wireless network. The steps are provided with the following two links. Please choose the link for your particular operating system. If a student has a Windows logon account in one of the academic domains, they will have access to the network resources related to their coursework. Otherwise, a generic login account is used that gives Internet access only. The generic account information can be retrieved from Campus Cruiser. Refer to lab assistants in A-208 for further assistance. |
